The Roorkee College was established in 1847 as the First Engineering College in the British Empire. The College was renamed as the Thomson College of Civil Engineering in 1857. In November 1949, the erstwhile college was elevated to the First Engineering University of Independent India, which has been renamed recently as IIT-Roorkee (year 2003).

IIT-Roorkee Alumni Association, Hyderabad chapter plays an active role in bringing the local Thomsonians under one platform. This chapter encourages members and their family to use this platform for exchange of experience and expertise with fellow members and develop oneness among themselves and to contribute towards building up a strong and healthy society.
